Rebirth of Israel

Transcription of a sermon at the Feast of Booth’s.

About fifty years ago, the Jewish homeland began a rebirth, as Elohim proclaimed through His written word. The massive gathering of the world’s Jews to this land brings forward the most powerful message from Elohim to humanity in over 2000 years.

When the mass Ingathering of the Jews began late in the nineteenth century, in the barren Ottoman backwater, a land that was promised to descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, hundreds of thousands of Jews have gathered from over 100 nations.

Notice in the Holy Scriptures: (Tanakh throughout):
Ezek. 34:12-15,28 As a shepherd seeks out his flock when some [animals] in his flock have gotten separated, so I will seek out My flock. I will rescue them from all the places to which they were scattered on a day of cloud and gloom. I will take them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries, and I will bring them to their own land, and will pasture them on the mountains of Israel, by the watercourses and in all the settled portions of the land. I will feed them in good grazing land, and the lofty hills of Israel shall be their pasture. There, in the hills of Israel, they shall lie down in a good pasture and shall feed on rich grazing land. I Myself will graze My flock, and I Myself will let them lie down declares ETERNAL CREATOR. ...Vs 28. They shall no longer be a spoil for the nations, and the beasts of the earth shall not devour them; they shall dwell secure and untroubled”

Jeremiah continues this thought, but it is for all Israel and not just Judah:
Jer. 32:37-38,41 I will gather them out of all countries, where I have driven them in Mine anger, and in My fury, and in great wrath. And I will bring them again unto this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely. And they shall be My people, and I will be their Deity. ...Vs 41 I will delight in treating them graciously, and I will plant them in this land faithfully, with all My heart and soul

The world as a whole has rejected the claim made by the Jews, that they returned to a land of malarial swamplands, desert, and almost entirely denuded of trees. Arafat told the United Nations in 1974:

The Jewish invasion began in 1881... Palestine then was a verdant area, inhabited mainly by an Arab people...”
But, this was not a true statement because; hundreds of visitors to the land in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries gave eyewitness accounts of how Elohim kept His promise to the letter. For when He said the land of Israel would waste away and remain for the most part empty during the Diaspora*, it did. Notice the next two scriptures:
(*The scattering of the Jews after the Babylonian captivity).
Lev. 26:33 And you I will scatter among the nations, and I will unsheathe the sword against you. Your land shall become a desolation and your cities a ruin”

Zechariah 7:14 I dispersed them among all those nations which they had not known, and the land was left behind them desolate, without any who came and went. They caused a delightful land to be turned into a desolation”

In 1835, the French poet Alphonse de Lamartine said:

Outside the gates of Jerusalem we saw indeed no living object, heard no living sound. We found the same void, the same silence, as we should have found before the entombed gates of Pompeii or Herculaneum. ...A complete, eternal silence reigns in the town, in the highways, in the country ...the tomb of a whole people.”
In 1867, Mark Twain gave a similar description of the Jezreel valley as “being devoid of a single village,” the Galilee as “unpeopled deserts,” Jericho as “a moldering ruin,” Bethlehem as “untenanted by any living creature,” and “renowned Jerusalem itself ...a pauper village.” Mark Twain continued saying, “Palestine sits in ashes. ...It is a hopeless, dreary, heartbroken land.” And so it was, until about 14 years later, the Jews began to return and rebuild, as CREATOR promised:
Jer. 33:7 And I will restore the fortunes of Judah and Israel, and I will rebuild them as of old”

Ezekiel 36:34-35 And the desolate land, after lying waste in the sight of every passerby, shall again be tilled. And men shall say, ‘That land, once desolate, has become like the Garden of Eden; and the cities, once ruined, desolate, and ravaged, are now populated and fortified’”

Over 100 years after the return began, the migration of Jews continue to pour into their land. One third of all the former Jews, totaling 649,097 people—have made aliya [ah-lee-ah = immigrating to Israel] which is about 12 percent of the Israeli population, and they have arrived in the last seven years. The expectation is that 70,000 more will arrive shortly.

For thousands of years, most if not all Jews have faithfully kept the Passover. It has not mattered where they were, inside the borders of Israel or in exile from it, and no matter under what kind of conditions they were in—in brief interludes of peace and prosperity, or under extreme conditions. If it was at all possible, they have kept this ONE ceremony. Sometimes under extremely difficult circumstances, they gave thanks to Elohim for bringing them out of Egypt, and bringing them into the Promised Land.

We are told through the Hebrew Scriptures, that this gathering of the Jews is but a shadow of the coming exodus from all lands by all of the Israelites:
Jer 16:14-15 Assuredly, a time is coming’ declares YHWH, when it shall no more be said, ‘as YHWH lives who brought the Israelites out of the land of Egypt,’ but rather, ‘as YHWH lives who brought the Israelites out of the north land, and out of all the lands to which He had banished them.’ For I will bring them back to their land, which I gave to their fathers”.

By bringing physical Israel back to the Holy Land, Elohim is raising a banner that is going to be very difficult for nations to ignore. It is going to confront the world into the reality of His unlimited existence, sovereignty, and His unlimited power. In Isaiah we are told:
Isaiah 11:11-12 In that day, YHWH will apply His hand again to redeeming the other part of His people from Assyria, as also from Egypt, Pathros, Nubia, Elam, Shinar, Hamath, and the coast lands. He will hold up a signal to the nations and assemble the banished of Israel, and gather the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth”

Ezekiel adds more:
Ezek. 36:23,36I will sanctify My great name, which has been profaned among the nations, among whom you have caused it to be profaned. And the nations shall know that I am YHWH, declares ETERNAL CREATOR, when I manifest My holiness before their eyes through you.” Vs 36, “And the nations that are left around you shall know that I YHWH have rebuilt the ravaged places and replanted the desolate land. I YHWH have spoken and will act. And the nations that are left around you shall know that I YHWH have rebuilt the ravaged places and replanted the desolate land. I YHWH have spoken and I will act

But among ‘Christians,’ prejudices remain. The Ingathering of the Jews in Israel has caused a cataclysmic event that has shaken the dust of blindness of the past centuries from the eyes of some ‘Christians.’ There are some ‘Christians’ that are beginning to realize it is a fact that the nation of Israel is still special in the eyes of our CREATOR, and still occupies an extraordinarily special place in His purpose for mankind. Regardless, the anti-Semitism still colors the eyes of many of these same ‘Christians’ who are excitedly observing this physical return of Jews.

Bear in mind, not all people declaring to be Jews are following, or are religious, but they do know they belong there. Even those who do not follow Judaism recognize they have been hounded, harassed, and afflicted in every land they sought refuge down through the centuries. The vast majority of ‘Christians’ believe the Jews are returning to their ancient homeland, (i.e. the Promised Land) to face more of Elohim’s wrath and judgment. Furthermore, it is amazing how many cling to the belief, that when the church is raptured up to heaven at any moment, that the Jews along with the unbelieving Gentile world, are going to be left behind to face “God’s” wrath.

This majority argues that the Jews are unsaved and will remain unsaved, and therefore have to be punished until they accept ‘Christ’ as their Savior. The origins of this lie can easily be traced to the one person which ‘Christian’ anti-Semitism originated; saying the Jews rejected ‘Christ,’ killed ‘God’, and so naturally they were cursed and made to wonder and suffer until they converted to ‘Christianity.’

The matter can be made clear from the Scriptures. Elohim warned all Israel [not just the Jews] in Deut. 30, what He would do if they did not follow His commands. Israel was warned many times to change and they refused. The dispersion from the land was a curse; restoration to the land will be a blessing.

What does Elohim promise a regathered Israel? Psalm 80 tells us the “Shepherd of Israel is beseeched to cause his face to shine on scattered Israel” (asked not to pour out His wrath on them), and then later in the chapter the Israelites say “and we will or shall be saved.” We won’t go through the whole chapter, but you can read and study this on your own at your leisure. The context in Psalm 102 the prophet writes about the regathering:
Psalm 102:14 Tanakh (Vs 13 in the KJV) You will surely arise and take pity on Zion, for it is time to be gracious to her; the appointed time has come”

In many of the prophets, Elohim has promised to gather Israel, notice only a few:
Jer. 31:10 Hear the word of YHWH, O nations, and tell it in the isles afar. Say, He who scattered Israel will gather them, and will guard them as a shepherd his flock”

Ezek. 34:28 They shall no longer be a spoil for the nations, and the beasts of the earth”

Micah 4:4 But every man shall sit Under his grapevine or fig tree With no one to disturb him For it was YHWH of Hosts who spoke”

Zephaniah 3:13 The remnant of Israel shall do no wrong and speak no falsehood. A deceitful tongue shall not be in their mouths. Only such as these shall graze lie down, with none to trouble them”

In Isaiah 41:8-16, Israel is told to “fear not” and “be not dismayed.” The promise goes on to say that by His “right hand” (not Israel’s righteousness) Israel will be upheld, and any who strive and or war against Israel will perish and be as nothing. Ezekiel 20:41 Elohim said that He would accept them as a sweet aroma and gather them from the countries He scattered them. Zephaniah 3:15, Elohim promised He would take away Israel’s judgments, remove their enemies, and they would see disaster no more. In Deut. 30:9, Jer. 32:41, Isa. 62:5, and Zeph. 3:17, the promise is that as he gathers Israel and establishes them in the “Promised Land” He will rejoice and be glad with singing.

Even with the weight of all the scriptural promises, many so-called Bible-believers around the world are convinced that when in next war (which by the way nearly everyone, including me, believe is inevitable) there will be a terrible toll of Jewish lives. They say, “Israel will be hammered until they call out to Elohim.” The fact of the matter is that ETERNAL’s wrath on Israel turned the Jews, as well as the nations, which they lived among, away from Him. In Ezekiel 36:21-22, Elohim said the dispersion profaned His Name among the nations, not glorifying it. Israel’s regathering is not done in readiness for another holocaust, as is believed by some. It is being prepared for the restoration of the nation of Israel to their CREATOR (Elohim).

In Ezekiel Elohim tells us that He will gather [all] Israel from all the countries, and place in them a new heart of flesh.
Ezek. 36:24-26 I will take you from among the nations and gather you from all the countries, and I will bring you back to your own land. I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and you shall be clean: I will cleanse you from all your uncleanness and from all your fetishes. And I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit into you: I will remove the heart of stone from your body and give you a heart of flesh”

Three chapters later we are told that Elohim will pour out His Spirit on the House of Israel:
Ezekiel 39:29 I will never again hide My face from them, for I will pour out My spirit upon the House of Israel declares ETERNAL CREATOR”

Samuel tells us that this restoration is only for Israel, as a nation:
2 Samuel 7:23 And who is like Your people Israel, a unique nation on earth, whom CREATOR went and redeemed as His people, winning renown for Himself and doing great and marvelous deeds for them [and] for Your land [driving out] nations and their gods before Your people, whom You redeemed for Yourself from Egypt. You have established Your people Israel as Your very own people forever; and You, O YHWH, have become their Deity.”

If the physical restoration of the Jewish people has caused such a mighty stirring among the peoples of the world, what will their spiritual restoration do?

Psalm 79:10 Let not the nations say where is their CREATOR? Before our eyes let it be known among the nations that You avenge the spilled blood of Your servants”

Psalm 115:2-3 Let the nations not say Where, now, is their CREATOR? When our CREATOR is in heaven and all that He wills He accomplishes”

Joel 2:17 Between the portico and the altar, let the priests, the YHWH’s ministers, weep, and say: ‘Oh spare Your people, YHWH! Let not Your possession become a mockery, To be taunted by nations!’ Let not the people say, ‘Where is their CREATOR?’”

Then YHWH was roused on behalf of His land and had compassion Upon His people. In response to His people YHWH declared: “I will grant you the new grain, The new wine, and the new oil, and you shall have them in abundance. Nevermore will I let you be a mockery among the nations. As you can see, they will say, “there is their CREATOR.” Elohim said:
Ezekiel 36:23 I will sanctify My great name which has been profaned among the nations among whom you have caused it to be profaned. And the nations shall know that I am YHWH declares ETERNAL CREATOR, when I manifest My holiness before their eyes through you. I will take you from among the nations and gather you from all the countries, and I will bring you back to your own land. I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and you shall be clean: I will cleanse you from all your uncleanness and from all your fetishes. What Elohim has said that He will do.”
