"If I shut up the heavens and there is no rain; if I command the locusts to ravage the land; or if I let loose pestilence against My people, when My people, who bear My name, humble themselves, pray, and seek My favor and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear in My heavenly abode and forgive their sins and heal their land."
II Chronicles 7:13-14;

The Jewish View
by Yair Davidy It is forbidden to kill another person, and this means not even to commit abortion or stem cell research. Abortion [and the use embryos in stem cell research] is the murder of a living human foetus. The practice of abortion in the State of Israel has cost the Jewish people the same demographic loss as the Holocaust did. The number of children killed in the Holocaust was according to reports less than the number of abortions performed in the State of Israel since the State was established. The population of the USA, Britain, and related nations would also be much greater if it were not for abortions and the world would have been better off.
Both Jews and gentiles are forbidden to perform or abet or in any way assist in abortions or destruction of embryos for whatever reason:
*A The Hebrew has "Whoever kills a man by a man ("ba-Adam" also meaning "in a man") his blood shall be spilt," meaning both [either] that the killer shall be killed "by means of a man." The prefix "ba" or "bi" in Hebrew being similar to the English "by" or that anyone who kills a man "inside of" a man (i.e. a human foetus) shall be killed. Both meanings are understood by the Rabbis to be applicable and not contradictory but rather complementary.
This verse is also understandable in the Hebrew as saying,
*B As explained in the note above, the Hebrew says, "Ba-adam" meaning both "by means of" = "Ba-" in Hebrew, the same as the English "by", i.e. the spiller of human blood will be put to death by mankind. Alternatively, "ba" also can mean "inside of," the shedder of human blood within a human (i.e. a foetus) shall be put to death (Talmud, Sanhedrin 57:b). My task is not to preach to you but as Israelites, we have an especial obligation to go beyond ourselves when we can, to better ourselves, and to better others. As human beings, we are born with basic obligations but as Israelites, these inherited commitments are even more binding on us.
Genesis 12:3 "In you shall all families of the earth be blessed." In you and in your seed will all families of the earth be blessed."
Genesis 28:14 "You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore, I will punish you for all your iniquities"
Yair Davidy - Jerusalem, Israel
FootnotesGen. 1:5-6 (TLB) "And murder is forbidden. Man-killing animals must die, and any man who murders shall be killed; for to kill a man is to kill one made like CREATOR" and that includes zygotes, embryos, and fetuses.
