Hi there,

Hi JC,
You are off the list - except for this reply. Please explain to me, what your being a pro-choice Democrat has to do with Stem Cell Research? Did YHWH exempt you from obeying the 10 Commandments? As I read the Scriptures, party affiliation does not seem to matter to Him.

Whenever an egg and a sperm unite, they form an embryo. The new embryo is a new separate life, a new person and to mutilate an embryo (person) is intentional slaying which is murder plain and simple. In addition, it does not matter if the embryo is in a test tube or in a womb, it is murder to kill it regardless of the so-called reason.
I have often wondered when the Creator puts the spirit in man in an embryo? Is the Creator obliged to do this whenever man decides to experiment with eggs and sperm as the scriptures tell us that it is the Creator who "opens the womb" and "makes barren"? To my mind it seems as if man is trying to dictate to the Creator - I am creating a human being therefore you have to put in the spirit. Do you have any thoughts on this?

Shalom Morley,
How else could it, the "spirit in man," occur except that it happen at conception when the new life is formed. Our loving CREATOR decided to do that long before humankind began experimenting with eggs and sperm. Also remember, that He told Adam and Eve to go forth and produce offspring. Each one of these human offspring is another candidate for the Kingdom; in fact, so is each aborted fetus or mutilated embryo. In addition, at what age from conception does YHWH decide that the new conceived life is a new person that He will resurrect? To be constituent and practical the "spirit in man" must be implanted at conception. All YHWH needs in order to resurrect a person is the "spirit in man" - that returns to Him at the death of the human. 1 With that He can resurrect them to what ever age He decides (i.e. to an infant or baby) able to sustain its own life with the care of loving parents. Some teach that older humans would be resurrected back to 30 years of age, so it stands to reason, that minutes old embryos would be resurrected forward to infant status.

Yacob,
Why are your friends having a hard time seeing the wrong in using "fetal tissue", even assuming it had come from previously killed embryos, which you have brought into question? 2 Let me attempt to make it simpler for them by an analogy:
Suppose you were commander of the US Army that liberated a Nazi death camp at the end of W.W.II and you found some [barely] alive Jews along with some that had already died. Someone examines the living and concludes that 50% of them will die anyway within 3 days. [Now I'm being graphic and not very sensitive, but only to make a POINT!].... Let's further suppose a lampshade factory owner who has a market for lampshades made from human hide comes along and asks to buy as many skins as are available . He had been in the habit of buying them from the former camp commander.
Would you, as the Free World's on-site leader:
- Allow all the Jews in the camp to be killed and sell theirs and all previously-harvested hides to the factory?
- Allow only the soon-to-die to be killed and sell theirs and all previously-harvest hides to the factory?
- Take the moral "high ground" and refuse to kill any more Jews but agree to sell the previously harvested human hides to the factory because "the decision to end life had already been made and consummated."
- Have nothing to do with the whole grisly business of trafficking in human tissue resulting from murder.
Please excuse my example, because it is likely to be quite offensive to all Jews, especially Holocaust survivors and the near-kin of those murdered. However, it may be the only way some will see that when President Bush chose "Option 3" above, he was NOT taking the moral high ground. He was providing the murders and those who profited from them to continue to reap the benefits of the crimes against humanity.
I know the example is stretched a bit because lampshades hardly rise to the level of use for harvested human tissue that stem cells might rise to. However, the point is the same. Both are available only because someone murdered embryos, and it is no more right to do so for re-growing organs, than it would be for selling lampshades.
Shalom, Dick

Editors Note to reader, please understand: The embroys in discussion were "NOT ALREADY DEAD" We know that they were not dead because the way fertility clinics operate is that they test-tube a conception with a donor sperm and donor egg (the donors may be married or not, but are not yet ready to have the child). In the next step, the lab quick-freezes the embryo to be used later as a uterus implant (note that the embryo IS NOT DEAD because it is to be implanted later). If the embryos did not have a potential for being born a baby, the clinics would have already disposed of them. Therefore, the question IS NOT whether they use "old" embryos (not dead, just "unwanted" as of now) or "new" harvested embryos for "Stem Cell Research," because, it does not matter if an embryo is "old" or "new" it is still a person regardless of how long it has been since it was conceived (see Wake Up Call #33a).
